Be sure to polish your clubs and practice your swing; October 4th is National Golf Lovers Day, or more simply, National Golf Day. First celebrated in 1952 with an Illinois event attended by Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis, and Dean Martin, National Golf Day serves as a day to celebrate, spread public awareness, and unite fellow golfers in their combined love of the sport. In addition to promoting amateur and professional golfing, the holiday also serves as a PGA-sponsored, charitable event that raises money for a variety of charities and causes. With over 4,300 professional members, the PGA encourages all members to hit the green with fellow contributors and use entry fees to fund charitable causes.

In honor of National Golf Day, now is the perfect time to hit the green and engage in some friendly competition. To assist in locating a prime course in your area, LongIsland.com's booking feature is designed specifically to find and reserve tee times at local courses. Simply pick a course, decide on the number of players, and choose a time, and you'll be given a list of tee times that you can instantly book from the comfort of your own home.

Though there are dozens of private golf courses on Long Island, check out the following list of public courses in Suffolk and Nassau County. Book a tee time through LongIsland.com and head out to play a round of golf for National Golf Day!
