Shirley, NY - March 16th, 2015 - On Saturday, March 21 from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, the Mastics-Moriches Shirley Community Library is hosting the third and final “Envision Our Future” workshop to discuss and garner community input on the future of the Community Library. The focus of this workshop will be on the concept and design phase where costs associated with the different options will be considered; those options may include renovating the existing building, demolishing and constructing a new building on the existing site or constructing a new facility on land made available by the Town of Brookhaven.

Approximately 250 residents attended the first two meetings combined and a number of priority items were identified by participants such as: the need for a more efficient layout, additional parking spaces, increased space for teens, increased quiet areas, updated technology, a more energy-efficient design, larger meeting rooms for the community, additional restrooms that are ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant and more.

The goal of the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library “Envision Our Future” workshops is to work collaboratively with members of the community to ensure that the Community Library continues to provide exceptional services in a fully-functional facility that residents deserve. Together we will reach a consensus. We hope to see you there.

This workshop will be held at a new location: William Paca Middle School, 338 Blanco Drive, Mastic Beach, NY 11951. Free meals and childcare will be provided. Please log onto future.communitylibrary.org to register and to see a recap and videos from the first two presentations. You can also register by calling (631) 399-1511 extension 240 or in person at the Adult Reference Desk.
