In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the south shore Towns of Babylon and Lindenhurst have instituted curfews which are now in place from dusk to dawn for all non-residents. This measure will stand until it is repealed by the village.

This measure has been put in place by executive order since a Local State of Emergency was signed on 11/2/12, and intends to protect the residents and properties that were the hardest hit who continue to have little access to power and water, enabling them to return safely to their homes to salvage what they can. The clearing of dangerous downed power lines and trees is ongoing in these areas. The southernmost areas that were hardest hit with floodwaters resulted in the destruction of interiors and exteriors of homes and businesses in that area.

The restricted areas under curfew are south of Montauk Highway, 27A, in the Mandatory and Voluntary Evacuation Zones in these villages. The curfew is a punishable offense that does NOT apply to residents who live within the evacuation zone areas. Residents should be sure to have their photo ID on them at all times if they need to be out after dark to prove their residency and ensure their access to the area.
