Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Vehicle in West Babylon

Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed an 83-year-old woman in West Babylon this afternoon

West Babylon, NY - August 13th, 2013 - Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed an 83-year-old woman in West Babylon this afternoon.

Carol Lawrence was driving a 2008 Toyota eastbound on Montauk Highway when she made a left turn onto Great East Neck Road and struck Amelia Couvertier who was attempting to cross Great East Neck Road at approximately 3:20 p.m.   Couvertier, of Lido Parkway, Lindenhurst, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where she was later pronounced dead.

Lawrence, 73, of Irene Street in North Lindenhurst, was not injured. Her Toyota was impounded for a safety check.

Detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed this crash and have not been interview to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
