Crime Report: Selden Hit-and-Run, Drunk Driver Kills Pedestrian

A teen was injured during a hit-and-run in Selden; a drunk driver killed a pedestrian in Lake Ronkonkoma.

Selden Hit-and-Run
Police say two people were arrested in connection with a hit-and-run that left a teen injured in Selden. Milissa O’Brien was driving a 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier down Route 25 when she struck a 16-year-old boy near the intersection of Marshall Drive. She then fled the scene.

Anthony Bonello of Bay Shore was allegedly in the passenger seat during the time of the incident. O’Brien, 39 of Medford, returned to the scene a short time later. According to police, she claimed that Bonello was driving the car when the teenager was hit. However, cops do not believe her story.

The 16-year-old victim is currently being treated for head injuries. He is listed in serious condition at Stony Brook University Medical Center. Police have not released the boy’s name.

O’Brien is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended license and falsely reporting a crime. 40-year-old Bonello is being charged with falsely reporting a crime.

Drunk Driver Kills Pedestrian
Thomas Vaughan is under arrest and being charged with driving while drunk and killing a pedestrian in Lake Ronkonkoma, according to police.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. Vaughan, who is 59-years-old from Lake Grove, was allegedly driving a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer down Expressway Drive North when he hit the pedestrian. The accident happened near the intersection of Carroll Avenue.

Police say that the male pedestrian was walking in the traffic lane at the time of the accident. It is unclear why the man was in the middle of the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released the name of the victim, as they are still notifying his next of kin.

Vaughan was arrested at the scene, and is facing DWI charges. He is scheduled for arraignment on Sunday at the First District Court in Central Islip.
