(East Islip, NY) -- Long Island families ready to shake off winter's cabin fever can look forward to fun in the fresh air at Heckscher Park on Saturday April 30th and Sunday May 1st from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, as local sponsors and educational organizations host Earth Day Spring Festival 2011.

The celebration promises to entertain all ages with animals, arts and crafts. Additionally, businesses sponsoring the event offer special opportunities for families to practice living green.

Junkluggers, a business that specializes in donating and recycling household junk that will be one such sponsor on site. In honor of Earth Day, they will be accepting used laptops and sorting them to either distribute to local schools or to recycle.

"Kids are naturally creative and enthusiastic, and that's the kind of energy the world needs to inspire us to keep toxic waste out of landfills," says Junkluggers founder Josh "Shuki" Cohen. "We're hoping these kids will actually get to help their parents bring a laptop to our recycling station, because leading by example is going to have a much bigger impact on them than ordinary teaching methods or public service announcements."

Admission to the Spring Festival is free of charge; parking is $8 per car. Heckscher is a 1,469-acre State Park located on Southern State Parkway East to the south end of Heckscher Parkway in East Islip.
