The Third Squad reports on the arrest of a Queens female for Forgery of a Vehicle Identification Number that occurred on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 3:45 p.m. in East Garden City.

According to detectives, officers observed a 2005 Honda Odyssey traveling southbound on Ring Road with a defective stop lamp. Officers also recognized that this vehicle was used to flee the scene from a previous petit larceny that occurred on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at the JC Penney located at 630 Old Country Road. Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop.

Officers approached the vehicle and found defendant Jamileth Galvez Hernandez, 18, of 7131 66th Place to be by herself in the passenger-side of the vehicle with the vehicle running. Officers requested defendant Hernandez to step out of the vehicle which she refused and attempted to jump into the front seat of the vehicle. Defendant Hernandez continually flailed her arms, resisting verbal and physical commands. The defendant was then placed under arrest without further incident.

Subsequent to the investigation, officers discovered the vehicle identification number for the vehicle had been swapped out. Officers also recovered a total of 142 counterfeit $100 dollar bills, totaling $14,200, as well as multiple receipts from the stores where large purchases were made and paid for in cash in one-hundred- dollar denominations.

Defendant Hernandez is charged with Forgery of a Vehicle Identification Number, Petit Larceny, Reckless Driving, Resisting Arrest and multiple Vehicle Traffic Infractions. The defendant was issued a Nassau County Appearance Ticket and is due back at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.
