While the dream of homeownership is the end goal for most Americans, having a home that actually reflects who you are – and that truly makes you happy to be living there each and every day of your life – can be slightly more elusive.

But if your home is not quite the picturesque showplace that you want it to be, the services of a qualified and knowledgeable interior designer can address those concerns. But putting your trust in the right one could be vitally important– enter Allison Yaris, owner of Allison Yaris Interiors, who has been creating dream homes for her Long Island clients for the past 14 years and counting.

Yaris specializes in practically every facet of interior design. From wallpaper, furniture, tile, carpet, window treatments, room layouts, and artwork/accessories all the way to complete renovations of bathrooms, kitchens, bonus rooms, and basements, she does it all.  Allison works with clients on anything from a single room to an entire abode.

“I can handle literally every aspect of home design and home furnishing, from the basement all the way through kitchens, baths, home offices and to outdoor living spaces,” she said. “I mostly concentrate on residential design, but I complete the occasional corporate job as well, and I get most of my work through positive word-of-mouth referrals from happy clients.”

Yaris – whose business is based out of Oyster Bay Cove – noted that her typical approach to a job involves a phone conversation with a potential client and then a face-to-face meeting with the client in their home. The initial consultation is where Allison will gather information about the room and about the client- both are vital to her in the design and outcome of a room.   Yaris noted that she favors very clean, contemporary, and warm compositions though she has the occasional pleasure of designing a traditional or coastal home.

“But for the most part, I prefer a clean design – somewhere between transitional and modern – in addition to creating non-cluttered spaces that are warm and inviting, clean and bright.” Clients are always kept completely in the loop throughout every step of the design and construction process, Yaris said, starting with the conceptual design phase and ending when the last nail is driven in and the final coat of paint dries.

“The client is involved in every step of the process,” she said. “For example, when choosing a sectional or a dining room chair, a client will  know what furniture looks like, they know what the fabric is, they know exactly the color of the wood, what the lighting fixture looks like, the dimensions. Everything.”

Another way Yaris involves the client in the process is through the presentation of design boards; using her artistic talents, she can sketch conceptual designs and even render three-dimensional computer mock-ups that containall of the elements of a proposed room transformation to ensure there are no surprises.

“I've never had a disappointed client,” she explained. “Usually, it's the opposite...I tend to exceed clients’ expectations.”

Once the design aspect of a job is completed, Yaris has a network of proven contractors and subcontractors that she can recommend to a client to carry out the work; however, if a client has a contractor of their own that they prefer to use, she's just as happy to work with them as well.

“I do have a handful of contractors that I have a really nice working relationship with, so that makes a lot of our jobs together very seamless,” she said. “I do sometimes work with other people's tradesmen as well. For example, I recently was working with a client on a bar area and her living room, and she had her own plumber that she loved and only wanted him to work on it, so I'm very flexible in that regard.”

Yaris noted that she gets a great deal of satisfaction out of being able to utilize her impressive artistic talents to be able to improve and elevate the living spaces of her clients. Living up to the trust they put in her is very important, she said, and all of her hard work in making her clients' dreams come true over the years has been more than worth the effort.

“Work feels amazing. I love being creative, I love making people's dreams come true,” Allison said. “It's very fulfilling for me to start a project and transform a space where now somebody loves being in their home or in a room.  It makes me happy and I love giving clients a beautiful space that they will appreciate for years to come.”
