NCPD: 23-Year-Old Driving at a High Rate of Speed Crashes into Taxi Cab, Fatal Hit-Run

Franklin Square, NY - April 24, 2016 - The Homicide Squad reports the details of a fatal vehicular accident that occurred on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 4:16am in Franklin Square.

According to Detectives, defendant Duke Obule, 23, was operating a 2016 BMW on Hempstead Turnpike at a high rate of speed when he struck a 2009 Chevrolet Taxi, operated by the victim, 47, of Elmont.  The collision pushed the taxi from the left east bound lane across two westbound lanes onto the sidewalk at Lincoln Road where it impacts a power pole.  The victim was pronounced at the scene by Nassau County Police Medic Rice at 4:24 am.  The twenty year old female passenger of the BMW was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a fractured left ankle.  Defendant Obule was located at Hempstead Turnpike and Evans Avenue and placed under arrest at 5:22am. 

Defendant Duke Obule is charged with Manslaughter 2nd, Assault 2nd, Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Death, Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd, Vehicular Assault 2nd, Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Physical Injury, DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle 3rd, Facilitating Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd and Unlicensed Operator.   He will be arraigned on Sunday, April 24, 2016 in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
