Officials: Copiague Resident Nabbed with Handgun by Police During Traffic Stop

Valley Stream, NY - February 7, 2018 - The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a Copiague man for Criminal Possession of a Weapon which occurred on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 8:15 pm in Valley Stream.
 
According to detectives, Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team officers were on patrol, when they observed a 2003 Lincoln parked more than twelve (12) inches from the curb. Officers also noticed the driver was drinking from a bottle containing an alcoholic beverage. While investigating the man’s conduct, officers observed a handgun located between the subject and the vehicle’s center console. Damion Edwards, 37, was removed from the vehicle, which was not running and arrested without incident.
 
Defendant Edwards is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Consuming Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle and Parked more than Twelve (12) Inches From the Curb. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at First District Court, Hempstead.
