AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties... Richmond...Kings...Queens...New York...Bronx...Westchester... Rockland...Nassau...and Suffolk. from 11 AM this morning to 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone . The Air Quality Index...or AQI...was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value...the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated...the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young...and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Officials: Copiague Resident Nabbed with Handgun by Police During Traffic Stop

NCPD reports the arrest of Damion Edwards of Copiague, 37, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

Valley Stream, NY - February 7, 2018 - The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a Copiague man for Criminal Possession of a Weapon which occurred on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 8:15 pm in Valley Stream.
 
According to detectives, Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team officers were on patrol, when they observed a 2003 Lincoln parked more than twelve (12) inches from the curb. Officers also noticed the driver was drinking from a bottle containing an alcoholic beverage. While investigating the man’s conduct, officers observed a handgun located between the subject and the vehicle’s center console. Damion Edwards, 37, was removed from the vehicle, which was not running and arrested without incident.
 
Defendant Edwards is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Consuming Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle and Parked more than Twelve (12) Inches From the Curb. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at First District Court, Hempstead.
