Dear Long Islander,
After some serious downpours and a slight cold snap we’re looking at high temperatures in the 60s and a fair bit less rain over the next week, though the clouds will still be lingering in the sky and there’s presently a chance of precipitation predicted for Sunday and Tuesday. Now that May is here there will be plenty of flowers and trees beginning to bloom, filling the Island with all the colors (and the pollen) of spring. We have officially entered the month of May which is known for flowers that have officially sprung from the ground creating a beautiful landscape across Long Island. As the flowers continue to bloom, locals are also beginning to liven up and enjoy the warm Spring weather. With more sunshine during the day, there are plenty of fun-filled events to keep you busy this month. Earth Day may have been last month but that is no reason to stop helping the environment. Volunteers will be at sixteen parks across Long Island who will help clean up, improve and sustain our state parks and beaches for the third annual I Love My Park Day on Saturday, May 3rd!

Port Jefferson's 3rd Annual Boater's Maritime Festival
Head to Port Jefferson's beautiful harbour this weekend for a celebration on the water front. The free event will begin at 11 AM on Saturday and Sunday and will feature a boat show, live demonstrations, displayed water activities, food, music, pirates and more!
Long Island Orchid Festival 2014
Get this season's orchids by attending this year's Orchid Festival, which will be held at Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park from May 2nd-4th. The free event will take place from 9 AM-5 PM each day and will feature orchid vendors from all around the world!
