AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an air quality health advisory for the following counties... Suffolk...Nassau...Richmond...Kings...Queens...New York...Bronx...Wes chester...Rockland. from 11 AM this morning to 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone . The Air Quality Index...or AQI...was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value...the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated...the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young...and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. Daughter Arrested for Reckless Driving after Two-Car Crash that Killed her Mother

Suffolk County Police today arrested a woman for reckless driving after a two-car motor vehicle crash that killed her mother in Brookhaven today.

Brookhaven, NY - August 31, 2013 - Jessica Pistolese, was driving a 2004 Chevy Malibu westbound on Montauk Highway, when her vehicle struck a 2011 Chrysler 300, being driven by Aide Marichal at approximately 3:55 p.m. Marichal was traveling southbound on Horseblock Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Montauk Highway when she was struck by Pistolese.

Pistolese’s mother, Judith Rivera, 71, of East Patchogue, was in the front passenger seat and was pronounced dead by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.  Pistolese, 38, of Mastic and Marichal, 51, of Mastic were both transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for non-life threatening injuries and have since been released.

Pistolese was charged with Reckless Driving. She was released on bail and given a Desk Appearance Ticket. She is scheduled to be arraigned November 4. Vehicular Crimes Unit detectives are continuing the investigation.
