Police: Second Teen Arrested in Connection with Merrick Playground Anti-Semitic Graffiti Incident

The juvenile defendant is charged with Aggravated Harassment 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Possession of a Graffiti Instrument, and Making Graffiti.

The Nassau County Police Department First Squad reports that second male juvenile has been arrrested in connection with a Bias Incident that originally occurred on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at 9:00 am in Merrick.
 
According to detectives, First Precinct officers responded for a Bias Incident that occurred at the Chatterton School, located at 108 Merrick Avenue. Upon arrival officers observed 2 (two) swastikas spray painted in black paint on playground equipment. The swastikas were approximately 12” x 12” in size.
 
Earlier in August, a 14-year-old male juvenile was arrested in connection with above Bias Incident and was charged with Criminal Mischief 3rd degree, Aggravated Harassment 1st degree, Making Graffiti and Possession of Graffiti Instruments. He was issued an appearance ticket that is returnable to Nassau County Family Court.
 
Police report that a second 14-year-old male juvenile, from Bellmore, has been arrested for the above Bias Incident. The juvenile defendant is charged with Aggravated Harassment 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Possession of a Graffiti Instrument, and Making Graffiti. He was issued an Appearance ticket returnable to Nassau County Family Court on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.
