DWI Crash Horror: Bay Shore Man Arrested After Collision Leaves Motorcyclist Seriously Injured

Suffolk County Police arrest Bay Shore man for DWI following a collision that left a female motorcyclist seriously injured, prompting investigations and appeals for information.

Suffolk County Police last night arrested a man for DWI after a crash that seriously injured a female motorcyclist in Bay Shore last night.
 
John Hernandez-Hernandez was driving a 2014 Chrysler 300 northbound on Fifth Avenue  when he attempted to turn left onto Fairtown Road, causing a southbound 2020 Kawasaki motorcycle to crash into his vehicle at approximately 8:20 p.m.
 
The motorcyclist, Veronica Ortega, 32, of Central Islip, was airlifted via Suffolk County Police
helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
 
Hernandez-Hernandez, 21, of 17 Fairtown Road, Bayshore, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He is being held at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on April 29.
 
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with  information on the crash to contact the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
