Honu Kitchen and Cocktails, a mainstay of downtown Huntington's nightlight and restaurant scene for two decades, caused confusion on Wednesday when upscale eatery suddenly announced that it would be closing its doors, effective immediately.

“As of today Honu Kitchen & Cocktails will be closing its doors," an announcement on the restaurant’s Instagram page read. "We are so gracious and thankful to all our loyal customers over the past 20 years who celebrated many special occasions with us."

No reason was given for the unexpected closure, but the restaurant - located at 363 New York Avenue - stated on Instagram that new ownership would be potentially taking over the location and re-opening the establishment this upcoming fall.

“We want to wish all the best to the new restaurant group who will be re-creating the space into an amazing culinary experience for all this fall,” the post continued. "Again, we thank you."

However, no specific timetable was given, nor was it confirmed of the Honu name would be retained, or if the establishment would be re-branded.
