Mall Security Guard Left his 2 Year-Old Child in Hot Car While Working, Cops Say

NCPD reports the arrest of Kaliym Rodriguez of Roosevelt, 26, for Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Long Island, NY - July 30, 2018 - Third Squad detectives report the arrest of a Roosevelt man for an incident that occurred on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at 11:26 am in East Garden City.
 
According to detectives, a 911 call was received for a child left unattended in a parked vehicle on the second level parking lot by Macy’s, Roosevelt Field Mall, 630 Old Country Road. First to arrive at scene was a NCPD Mounted Unit officer, who observed a child strapped into a car seat in the rear passenger area of the vehicle. After gaining access to the child, through an open window and unlocked door, the two year old male, who was sweating profusely and was hot to the touch, then began to cry. An ambulance was requested to respond to the scene, during which time the child was placed into an air conditioned police vehicle until the Medic and ambulance arrived. The child was then taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released into the care of Child Protective Services.
 
Approximately an hour and a half later, Kaliym Rodriguez, 26, returned to his vehicle after working his security guard shift at Macys and was placed under arrest by awaiting officers.
 
Rodriguez is charged with Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on 7/30/2018.
