Freeport Father Arrested for DWI with 12 year old and 14 year old Children In Car

The Nassau County Police Public Information Office reports the arrest of a Freeport man for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated ( Leandra’s Law) that occurred on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at 1:45 am in Massapequa Park.
 
According to Police, a Seventh Precinct Officer on patrol observed a 2006 Lexus traveling westbound on Sunrise Highway with a defective headlight. The Officer activated his emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law Stop at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Manhattan Avenue. An investigation revealed that the defendant, Alexander Umanzor, 37, of 93 Archer Street, was
operating his vehicle under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.
 
The defendantwas placed into Police custody without incident. The vehicle’s passenger included a 51 year-old-male, a 49 year-old-female, a 14 year-old-male and a 12 year-old-female.
 
The children were released into the custody of a relative.
Defendant Umanzor is charged with two counts of Driving While Intoxicated, two counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and multiple Vehicle Traffic Infractions. He will be arraigned on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
