Man Killed in Melville Single Vehicle Crash, Authorities Report

Police: A 55-year-old man was driving on the Long Island Expressway when the vehicle veered off the roadway into the woods.

Melville, NY - June 25, 2018 - Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a Middle Island man in Melville on Sunday, June 24, 2018.
 
A 55-year-old man was driving a 2011 Hyundai westbound on the Long Island Expressway between Exit 50 and Exit 49N when the vehicle veered off the roadway into the woods near the north service road.
 
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
 
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
