Man Arrested for Making Drug Sale with Baby in Stroller

The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Roosevelt man for Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Assault on a Police Officer that occurred on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 12:58 pm in Hempstead.

Patrick Kemp, 31, of Roosevelt, pushed the stroller with the baby into the street when police tried to affect an arrest. Baby was not injured. A loaded semi-auotmatic handgun was also recovered in Kemp's possession.

Hempstead, NY - March 2, 2017 - The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Roosevelt man for Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Assault on a Police Officer that occurred on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 12:58 pm in Hempstead.

According to detectives, Hempstead Police Department Detectives were conducting a narcotics investigation on Terrace Avenue. Plain clothes detectives observed defendant Patrick Kemp, 31, of Roosevelt make a drug sale while pushing a stroller with a baby in it. Detectives attempted to affect an arrest when the defendant pushed the stroller into the street and fled on foot.  After a short foot pursuit, the defendant was apprehended after violently resisting.  A detective was transported to a local hospital for treatment of lacerations and abrasions to both hands, face and injury to his right wrist. Subsequent to the arrest, a loaded .45 caliber Springfield semi-automatic handgun was recovered in the defendants’ jacket pocket.  The baby was not injured and was released to the mother. 

Defendant Kemp is being charged with 2 counts Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd and 3rd Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  He will be arraigned on Thursday, March 02, 2017 at First District Court, Hempstead.
