April 13, 2016 - The Assembly has once again passed legislation to combat the lingering gender pay gap which for too long has damaged women’s economic security.

Women, who are increasingly the sole provider for their households, are unfairly denied opportunities and often cheated out of the wages they deserve because of their gender, which inevitably affects their ability to build better futures for their families. New York State can and should do better.

The bills we passed go further than current anti-discrimination laws to address and enforce pay equity, expand equal pay protections to ensure equal pay for equal work and ensure that jobs primarily held by women and minorities are not undervalued.

The Assembly’s pay equity bills will help working women across the state achieve the economic stability they deserve for the hard work they do, and it’s imperative that these bills become law this year. I will keep fighting for full women’s equality in New York.
