Baby Pushed in Stroller Struck and Killed by Truck in North Amityville

The 10-month-old child, Britney Arevalo, was pronounced dead at 1:46 a.m. after being struck in North Amityville.

North Amityville was the site of tragedy on Saturday night. A 10-month-old girl was killed after the stroller being pushed by her pregnant mother was struck by a pickup truck. Yancy Arevalo, 29, was crossing the busy Route 110 near Nathalie Avenue at around 7 p.m. when the incident occurred.
The child, Britney Arevalo, was pronounced dead at 1:46 a.m. at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center. Arevalo suffered minor injuries and was hospitalized being she is pregnant.
The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck, Arthur Plowden, 46, was traveling northbound on the highway when the tragic incident occurred. He remained at the scene and was not charged. Plowden received no injuries and his vehicle is currently being impounded for a safety check. Authorities are saying he was not speeding at the time he struck the Arevalo's child.
Residents who live near route 110 call the area of the accident scene a dangerous place for cross. The highway is consistently busy at all times of the day. “I usually don’t come anywhere near this road without being in a car,”  one resident told CBS news. “I’m surprised somebody who lives here bothered crossing the road without crossing at a light.”
The investigation involving the death of Britney Arevalo is ongoing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
