Drunk-Driving Mom Crashes into Utility Pole with Five Kids in Vehicle, SCPD Says

Suffolk County Police arrested a woman in Deer Park for driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law following a crash with her 13-year-old daughter and four other children in the vehicle on Saturday, August 31.
 
Jacquelin Moore was driving a 2012 Mercedes Benz on Acorn Street, near Half Hollow Road, when she crashed the vehicle into a utility pole at approximately 10:10 p.m. A 16-year-old female passenger was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. The four other passengers, 15, 13 and 12-year-old females, and a 7-year-old male were not injured. The children were released to the custody of family members.
 
First Squad detectives charged Moore, 47, with Driving While Intoxicated, four counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years or Younger (Leandra’s Law) and five counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. She was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on September 1.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
