Islandia, NY - September 2, 2015 - Robert Vecchio, President of the William Floyd Board of Education, recently served as an invited panelist at the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) 2015 Board Officers Academy, which was designed to help board members learn and sharpen the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve greater board effectiveness.

Speaking before more than 50 fellow board trustees from across the state during the Board Presidents’ Roundtable, Mr. Vecchio discussed ways to be an effective board president, how to handle sometimes difficult and challenging situations that may arise, effective advocacy and current issues in the world of education.

“I was pleased to be able to share some of my experiences and expertise with fellow board members from across New York State,” said Mr. Vecchio. “We as board members, share a common goal and reason for volunteering our time to serve our districts and communities – doing what is best for our students.”

Serving on the panel with Mr. Vecchio were fellow board presidents Dr. Karen Lessler, Middle Country School District, and Karen Brohm, West Hempstead School District.

Mr. Vecchio, NYSSBA’s inaugural “Champion for Change” award winner, has served on the William Floyd Board of Education since 2003 and provided strong and steady leadership as its President since 2006.
