Albany, NY - August 21, 2015 - Governor Cuomo announced that attendance at New York State Park campgrounds is on pace for another record-setting year, and reminded New Yorkers that many of the state’s finest camping facilities are open for fall camping well into the autumn months.

“We're on track for a banner year at New York state campgrounds and it’s not too late to see what you've been missing,” Governor Cuomo said. “With Labor Day right around the corner and the fall foliage season fast approaching, there is still plenty of time to make a reservation and visit on of New York's great campgrounds and experience that natural beauty that dots every corner of this state.”

Through August 17, New York State Park campgrounds are on pace for the busiest year on record. Visitors have reserved more than 562,000 overnight stays at State Park campgrounds so far, marking a 5.2 percent increase over 2014. The record set last year was 594,441 overnight stays.

“While summer may be flying by, there are still plenty of opportunities to camp at a state park, with close-by and affordable options for all families,” said State Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey. “With stunning fall foliage, crisp fall air and warm campfires to enjoy, fall camping is a wonderful way to extend your time in the outdoors before winter sets in.”

Camping reservations are available through ReserveAmerica, which provides online and phone reservations for campsites throughout New York. Reservations are accepted for campsites and cabins, from one day to nine months in advance of the planned arrival date. Visit here or call toll free 1-800-456-CAMP.

“For fall foliage enthusiasts, September and October are the best times to visit campgrounds in the Adirondacks and Catskills,” Department of Environmental Conservation Acting Commissioner Marc Gerstman said. “Opportunities for hiking, paddling and other outdoor adventures are plentiful at state campgrounds throughout autumn.”
