Suffolk County Police today arrested a Copiague man after it was determined that his license had been suspended or revoked 69 times.

Brentwood, NY - August 2nd, 2013 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a Copiague man after it was determined that his license had been suspended or revoked 69 times.
 
Third Precinct COPE (Community Oriented Police Enforcement) Officer Sal Gigante was on patrol in Brentwood when he observed a driver of a 1990 Mercedes Benz who failed to signal at Fifth Avenue and Pine Aire Drive at approximately 1:45 p.m. When Officer Gigante pulled him over, the driver, Jaquan Joas, initially gave a fake name and then fled on foot.  After a brief foot pursuit, Joas was taken into custody.
 
Upon further investigation it was determined that Joas had 69 suspensions or revocations on his license.
 
Joas, 22, of 660 Dixon Ave., Copiague, was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st Degree, Resisting Arrest, False Personation and Criminal Possession of Marijuana 5th Degree. Joas is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on August 3.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
