NCPD Announce Arrests in Connection with Hempstead Attempted Murder Case

Major Case Bureau reports the arrests of two (2) men for an incident that occurred on May 19, 2019 at 5:41 pm in Hempstead.
 
According to Gang Investigations Squad Detectives, a male victim, 54, had a verbal argument with an unknown male. The dispute quickly escalated after the subject displayed a handgun and pointed it at the victim. The victim fled into a building on Terrace Avenue.  The subject passed the handgun to another unknown male who entered the same building and discharged two (2) rounds at the victim. The victim was not struck and called 911 to report the incident.
 
A thorough investigation was conducted and Kawand Cofield, 40, was arrested. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree and Menacing 2nd Degree. He was previously arraigned.
 
The investigation also led to the arrest of Trevor Ford, 27. He is charged with Murder (Attempted) and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. He was arraigned at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
