One of Long Islanders favorite spots to kick off summer is Montauk. Between the lighthouse, state parks, beautiful beaches and delicious restaurants, there is no shortage of tranquility. Gurney’s Resort and Seawater Spa is the perfect place to unwind as it is situated on a pristine 2,000-foot private beach. Lounge on a king-size daybed in the sun or take a dip in the ocean inside—Gurney’s indoor pool uses local seawater that has been filtered and heated. Click to book.

Atlantic City, NJ

Book Now

Known as the “Las Vegas of the East,” Atlantic City has a reputation for its casinos (slot machines, cards, the whole nine yards!). But the iconic boardwalk can be just as thrilling with family-friendly rides and delicious places to eat. In the spirit of the holiday there’s also the Bradley Beach Memorial Day Parade, Atlantic Highlands Memorial Day Parade and Beach Haven Memorial Day Parade, all of which include firework displays.

Key West, FL

Key West is one of the most popular destinations for Memorial Day each year. While it might not be the best idea to stay on the island (it’s a bit pricey) you can find more reasonable rates on the surrounding Keys, and head over to Key West during the day. Don’t forget to grab a slice of key lime pie before heading back to reality.

Charleston, SC

Home of the world-famous Spoleta Festival, which runs for two weeks starting the Friday before Memorial Day, Charleston is filled with various arts and music related fun. Think opera, theater and dance and chamber, symphonic, choral and jazz music. Visitors can also enjoy the town’s famous horse-drawn carriage rides and strolls through the colorful gardens.

Cape Cod, MA

Cape Cod is a great place to get in touch with your outdoorsy side. The water may not yet be warm enough for a swim, but visitors can take a leisurely stroll along one of the many beautiful beaches, participate in beach games and visit some of the region’s lighthouses. The High Pointe Inn is a gorgeous place to stay during your visit. It overlooks Cape Cod Bay, has stunning garden suites and a breakfast spread fit for a king. Not to mention, if guests book a two-night stay in May or June they save 10 percent.
