Prior to the start of the Monday, May 19 meeting of the full Nassau County Legislature, Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) honored South Side High School juniors Kate Gupta and Lauren Ferazani for their efforts to raise awareness of antisemitism and inspire action to combat hate in the greater Rockville Centre community.
As co-vice presidents of the School’s chapter of the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), Gupta and Freazani embarked upon a project in which they partnered with the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism to promote the organization’s Blue Square Initiative. They also support numerous grassroots efforts to foster unity, tolerance, and positive change in their community and beyond.
“It just so happens that neither one of these young ladies are Jewish. However, they have extended themselves to combat hate by spreading a message of positivity, compassion and tolerance in schools and to raise awareness about antisemitism in our community,” Legislator Davis said. “I think this extraordinarily impressive, and I think it is a tribute to your family as well. The lessons that you are teaching and the actions you are undertaking will serve you well for the rest of your life.”
