Central Islip Man Killed in Crooked Hill Road Car Crash

Update - The name of the man killed in a Central Islip crash this morning is Leonard Joseph. The name was incorrect in the original release.

Brentwood, NY - March 9th, 2015 - Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a Central Islip man early this morning.

Joseph Leonard was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Express van eastbound on Express Drive South at the intersection of Crooked Hill Road in Brentwood when he apparently lost control of the vehicle at approximately 3:35 a.m. The vehicle struck several trees and a fence and overturned in a wooded area.

Leonard, 50, of East Cherry St., who was ejected from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. His passenger, Rachel Boerke, 25, of Lowndes Ave., Huntington Station, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
