Cops: Nassau University Medical Center Surgeon Accused of Attempting to Strangle Nurse

Dr. Venkatesh Sasthakonar of Albertson, 44, wrapped an elastic cord around her neck of a 51 year-old nurse after a disagreement, officials say.

East Meadow, NY - January 24, 2017 - The Third Precinct reports the arrest of an Albertson man for assault that occurred on Monday, January 22, 2018 in East Meadow at 4:45 P.M.
 
According to Detectives, the defendant Venkatesh Sasthakonar of Albertson, 44, was working as a surgeon located at Nassau University Medical Center 2201 Hempstead Turnpike. The defendant, after having a disagreement with a 51 year old female nurse, approached her from behind and wrapped an elastic cord around her neck. Defendant then left the hospital only to return several hours later where he was placed into police custody without incident. The victim was treated for substantial pain to her neck.
 
Defendant Sashakonar is being charged with Strangulation 2nd degree and Assault 3rd degree. He was arraigned at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.
