Hempstead, NY - January 20, 2017 - The Village of Hempstead recently held a Toy Gun Exchange at Village Hall in an effort to curb gun violence. Mayor Wayne J. Hall, Sr. and Village Board of Trustees welcomed children living in the Village and gave them the opportunity to exchange their toy guns for non-violent play options. Adult volunteers dressed in festive costumes and helped the children choose a non-violent alternative.
The program, in partnership with the nonprofit organization New York Toy Gun Exchange Program, was part of Mayor Wayne J. Hall, Sr.’s initiative to promote a culture of nonviolence throughout the Village.
