October may have been off to a warm and sunny start, but it looks like we'll be in for some showers this weekend. Not to worry though - it looks like by Sunday, the sun will have returned, and fall fun can continue! The leaves are beginning to turn, and it's a great time to check out some of the foliage hot spots, and there are plenty here right on Long Island (see our guide below). No matter what the weather is this weekend - there's plenty of fun, both indoor and outdoor happening all weekend long, and throughout the week. October 26th Walk for a Future Free from Alzheimer's
Join us for the 2013 Walk For Alzheimer’s, raising awareness and funds to help support local research as well as local families who ae coping with a diagnosis of dementia and/or Alzheimer’s Disease.  Walk and Fall Festival will be held in Westhampton Beach on October 26th, 2013. Welcome to Fall! With the changing season, leaves are changing and falling. Among the fun things you can do this fall, including festivals and getting ready for halloween, many Long Islanders love to go out and look at the changing scenery. Many Long Islanders go upstate or even out of state to enjoy the changing colors of the trees, but you do not have to go very far to enjoy the beautiful Fall. Grab your picnic basket, thermos of hot cocoa, and a camera to enjoy these local spots for the changing of the colors this fall!

Rugged Run for Respect
Looking for a little outdoor fun this weekend? Head down to the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds for the Rugged Run for Respect, this Saturday at 10AM!  The Rugged Run for Respect is a 5k out-and-back course; complete with body bending obstacles, and will not only test your physical strength and agility, but your mental stability as well.  You will crawl through tunnels, trudge through mud and carry sandbags across varied distances and it is all for a great cause! The proceeds will go towards Special Olympics New York and admission is $65. Head down for this challenging but rewarding day!

Doc's/Millennium Parties Fall Celebration
Fall is here, so why not celebrate? Head down to the La Bella Vita for the Doc’s/Millenium Parties Fall Celebration this Saturday, October 5th, from 7:30PM-12:30AM! This party will feature dinner, dancing, & mingling with other singles on the  large dance floor, & beautiful sprawling bar. Don’t miss this chance to meet new people and have a fantastic Saturday night!
 
 Rocking The Road For A Cure
If you want to show your support for breast cancer awareness, head out to Rocking The Road for a Cure this Sunday, October 6th, at 9:30 AM.  The Run will be police escorted and will begin at Alley Pond Park in Queens Village. An  After party will be held in Oceanside at Michael's Porthol! Admission for the event is $25.00 for pre-registration, $30.00 the day of the event, and  passengers are $10.00 per person. The event is rain or shine so don’t miss the fantastic day for a good cause!

Expecting Parents & Baby Expo
If you’re an expectant parent, you should head down to the Hilton Long Island this Sunday for the Expecting Parents & Baby Expo! The event will go from 10AM-4PM  and will feature educational seminars, exhibits and sessions that are dedicated to expecting parents, new parents and couples planning on starting a family.You can also ask experts questions on  a variety of topics including: breastfeeding, adoption, fertility, delivery options, healthy routines, postpartum depression, daycare/pre-school, and more! Don’t miss this chance to get informed on everything about parenthood!

The Special Olympics Presents: The Rugged Run for Respect
Come Out for This 5k For a Great Cause Saturday, October 5th

Our October 5th race is at Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds in Wheatley Heights.  The Rugged Run for Respect is a 5k out-and-back course; complete with body bending obstacles, and will not only test your physical strength and agility, but your mental stability as well.  You will crawl through tunnels, trudge through mud and carry sand bags across varied distances… all for a great cause! For over 44 years, Special Olympics New York has been providing year-round athletic training and competition for over 61,582 people with intellectual disabilities - come out and support this great cause this weekend - you're sure to have a blast!
