LI's Adorable Adoptables is a weekly column by Allison Matos, a lifelong Long Island resident who has been advocating animal adoption since 2012. Allison's weekly posts highlight local animals in need of adoption, and cover general animal welfare topics as well.

Samantha is waiting patiently for her forever home at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is a 1 year old adorable little girl who is guaranteed to melt your heart.  Weighing in at just 45 pounds, this sweet pea is described as super friendly with everyone she meets, and may even be suitable for a home with young kids! She is friendly with dogs and could even be for a home with a cat! Don’t let this amazing gall pass you by!  For more information, visit the shelter this weekend or check out their website!

Get ready for cuteness overload! Baxter is a gorgeous tri-color hound mix, about 8-9 months old now and ready to find his new family.  Baxter is described as a sweet, mild mannered boy who is house broken and even crate trained!  Baxter loves treats, but more than that, he LOVES his humans. Contact Sweetest Dog Rescue for more information on adopting Baxter today!

Happy (the name says it all) is truly an amazing dog. This little girl is approximately 2 years old, and sadly arrived at the shelter with Mega Esophagus. In the beginning, Happy was sick, but thanks to the great volunteers at Sweet Dog Rescue, Happy was loved her, nourished, and brought back to health.   Happy doesn’t let her tummy bring her down, and would you believe a wonderful volunteer made a special chair for her (which will be given to the new adopter) which helps to keep her body in a position that enables her to keep the food down?  What a sweetheart and a champ!  To learn more about adopting Happy, check out Sweet Dog Rescue’s website.

Looking for a gorgeous gal with eyes of blue?  Dusty is an 11 month old lab/husky mix female who is not only beautiful, she is also very loving and playful. Dusty is a bit excitable and might do better in a home without small children for the time being.  Dusty would love nothing more than to become part of your family, so why not head down to Sweet Dog Rescue and adopt her today!

Wishing everyone a safe Memorial Day, and please remember to always adopt - never shop!
