Valentine’s Day can be quite a fairytale and magical when your admirer sends you flowers, a box of chocolates or even a stuffed teddy bear. It is a day where sweethearts across Long Island express their passionate feelings for one another or just a day to show their sensitive side. Valentine’s Day can also be known as Singles Awareness Day because it sure can be a bummer when you’re single.

Being single any time of the year is tough as it is and when Valentine’s Day rolls around, it can amp up those nights of loneliness and singleness. Just knowing that it’s February can remind you of Valentine’s Day especially with all those festive decorations, shelves of heart-shaped chocolates at grocery stores and other holiday gifts. This year, Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday so it can be one of the loneliest days of all. On this day for couples, most will be going out to dinner or spending quality time with their significant other. The odds of being able to have a girls night out or guys night out is slim. These lovebirds will be hitting the nest together while you’re left flying solo.

Let’s face it - being alone on Valentine’s Day while nearly everyone else is out having a good time can be depressing but hold off on grabbing that carton of ice cream or box of chocolate chip cookie dough. Even though you’re single, that doesn’t mean you should have that long face. This time, fight back against the holiday heartbreak.

We’ve got you covered on some sweet and sugary singles events taking place throughout February with our guide to Surviving Valentine’s Day Without Getting The Blues. Sometimes getting your mind off of being single can be tough but it’s time to get off that couch, clean yourself up a bit, put on some nice clothes, and get out! You may not be the only one moping and whining about being single so get out there and mingle! You might even meet your one and only!

More Ways To Cure Those Blues
It’s never easy getting through the pain and disheartening thought of having no one by your side to say is your “better half” or who “completes you.” Rathering than thinking about what could have been, think about yourself and enjoy the single life! Here are some ways to get your mind off being single.

  • Keep yourself busy!
Don’t fall into the trap of curling up in a blanket on the couch and watching romantic and love-themed movies. If you keep your body busy, it will take your mind off the idea that you’re single such as go shopping or spend the day cleaning.
  • Go out with your friends
Most of your friend may not be single but you might have a few who are single just like you. Call them up and have your own Valentine’s Day Party or go to the bar (if you’re over 21)!
  • Spend time with your family
Surround yourself with love from your family because no one loves you more than your own family.

  • Treat Yourself
Take this time to focus on yourself and make the day special by pampering yourself.
  • For the guys - buy a nice shirt!
  • For the ladies - go enjoy a day at the spa!
