NCPD: Freeport Man Charged with Setting Rockville Centre Couple's Cars, Home on Fire

John Courtien, 57, is charged with Arson 2nd Degree, two counts of Arson 3rd Degree and four counts of Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree.

The Arson Bomb Squad reports the arrest of a Freeport man for Reckless Endangerment that occurred on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 5:05 am in Rockville Centre.
 
According to Detectives, a 45-year-old-female and a 56-year-old male were sleeping in the second-floor bedroom of a North Forest Avenue residence when they heard a loud noise and looked out their window. They observed both of their vehicles, a 2018 Porsche and a 2014 Dodge, engulfed in flames. 
 
Both victims exited out the house and observed that an unknown person had set the front door on fire. 
 
Upon arrival of Rockville Centre Police, a thorough investigation was conducted and with the assistance of the Freeport Police Department the defendant, John Courtien, 57, of 14 Florence Avenue, was located at the intersection of Guy Lombardo Avenue and Polk Street in Freeport and was placed under arrest without incident. No injuries were reported.
 
Defendant Courtien is charged with Arson 2nd Degree, two counts of Arson 3rd Degree and four counts of Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
