Bethpage, NY - November 24, 2017 - The Second Squad reports the arrests of two Bethpage men and a woman for Burglary and Assault that occurred in Bethpage on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 10:00 pm.

According to detectives, the defendant John Colwell, 19, was banging loudly on the front door of a Lowell Street residence. A 65 year old male homeowner who answered the door questioned the defendant why he was banging so loudly. A verbal argument ensued with defendant John Colwell at which time he rushed towards the victim. At this time the victim was able to reach for a bat and strike the defendant on his head causing a laceration. Defendant Colwell then began punching the victim to his head, face, and body while inside the home.

The victim yelled to his 61 year old wife and 21 year old daughter to dial 911 which they did. Second Precinct police arrived and located John Colwell inside the residence and placed him into police custody.

The victim suffered pain to his face and back along with three fractured vertebrae. The defendant and the victim were transported by ambulance to a local hospital and treated for their injuries. At that time John Colwell’s mother Danielle Colwell and her other son Liam Colwell arrived at the hospital and announced they were there to assist in filling out hospital health forms. Subsequently Second Precinct police gave multiple orders for them to leave the area after they became agitated and questioned why Defendant John Colwell was in police custody.

As police attempted to remove Danielle Colwell from the room she refused and became combative. At that time Liam Colwell then jumped on the back of one of the Second Precinct police officers and began to attack him. Other Nassau County police officers in nearby hospital rooms that heard the confrontation responded and placed Danielle Colwell into police custody. Police had to deploy and use an electronic control device (TASER) on Liam Colwell in order for him to comply and allow police to place him into police custody. Defendant Danielle Colwell and defendant Liam Colwell suffered no injuries. One Nassau County police officer suffered a sprain to his back.
