New Cassel Man Charged with DWI with Two Underage Passengers in Vehicle, Cops Say

New Cassel, NY - November 1, 2018 - The Nassau County Police Department reports the Arrest of a New Cassel man for Driving While Intoxicated/Leandra’s Law that occurred on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 10:35 p.m. in New Cassel.
 
According to police, a Third Precinct officer observed the defendant, Angel Maldonado, 22, failing to maintain a single lane while operating a tan 2000 Mazda MPV. A VTL stop was conducted at which time the officer observed the defendant to have slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Upon exiting the vehicle, the defendant was unsteady on his feet. He was placed under arrest without incident.
 
Angel Maldonado had two 15 year-old passengers in the car at the time of the VTL investigation. The minors were transported to their homes by police.
 
Angel Maldonado is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child under 15) under the Leandra's Law, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child as well as multiple VTL violations. He will be arraigned on Thursday, November 01, 2018 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
