Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Holtsville Crash

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that seriously injured a Patchogue man this afternoon.

Holtsville, NY - October 26, 2014 - Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that seriously injured a Patchogue man this afternoon.

An unidentified Hispanic man was riding a bicycle northbound on the southbound shoulder of North Ocean Avenue when he apparently attempted to cross the road at approximately 3:40 p.m.  The bicyclist was struck north of Cedar Avenue by a southbound 2010 Hyundai Elantra being driven by Celeste McKenna, 61, of Patchogue.

The bicyclist was treated at the scene by members of the Holtsville Fire Department.  He was transported via Suffolk County police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was being treated for serious head injuries. McKenna was not injured.

Fifth Squad Detectives are attempting to identify the victim.

The Hyundai was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.  Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
