Hero Nassau Cop Rescues Kitten Abandoned in Middle of Long Island Expressway

The Officer activated his emergency lights to stop traffic before getting out of his car to rescue the kitten.

The Public Information Office reports the details of an Animal Rescue that occurred on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 1:00 PM in New Hyde Park.
 
According to Police, a Highway Patrol Bureau (HPB) Officer was driving westbound on the Long Island Expressway near exit 34 when he observed an abandoned kitten in the middle of road. The Officer activated his emergency lights to stop traffic before getting out of his car to rescue the kitten. 
 
The kitten appeared unharmed and was transported to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter for assessment and treatment.
