ELEVATED THREAT OF WILDFIRE SPREAD CONTINUES ON WEDNESDAY Dry conditions with the combination of low relative humidity values between 20 and 30 percent along with frequent wind gusts of 20 to 25 mph will create another day of elevated risk for fire spread. Ridge Woman Seriously Injured in Car Crash on Sunrise

A Ridge woman driving a Dodge Caravan westbound on Sunrise Highway in North Lindenhurst at approximately 4:15 p.m. when she was struck by a Honda Civic that was traveling eastbound.

North Lindenhurst, NY - September 30th, 2014 - Gaby Yanez, was driving a 1999 Dodge Caravan westbound on Sunrise Highway in North Lindenhurst at approximately 4:15 p.m. when she was struck by a 1996 Honda Civic that was traveling eastbound.  The collision caused the Caravan to overturn. The driver of the Civic, Andres Batista-Tejeda, 48, of Copiague, appeared to be making a left turn at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Buffalo Avenue when the collision occurred.

Yanez, 53, of Ridge, was transported by North Lindenhurst Fire Department rescue to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip where she was treated for fractures to her right leg. Batista-Tejeda was also transported by North Lindenhurst Fire Department rescue to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip where he was treated for a punctured lung.

Batista-Tejeda was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He will be arraigned at a later date. The investigation is continuing and both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
