The Business Council of New York State announced Wednesday 11 finalists for the inaugural Minority & Women Business Award. The Business Council believes in the continued promotion of economic growth and prosperity for all, and that opportunity must be given to all employers, regardless of race or creed.

The Minority & Women Business Award honors minority, women, and LGBTQ businesses by recognizing their history and success. A total of 35 businesses from across the state were nominated by their legislators.

"Minority-owned businesses play such a vital role in improving local economies and uplifting communities everywhere. It is obvious that there is a pertinent need to support small business owners, especially those hit hardest by the pandemic," said Assemblymember Taylor Darling (18th District). "I am so grateful for the tremendous work of The Business Council and their recognition of one of my favorite businesses that serves my district, Backyard BBQ, located in Freeport, NY. I look forward to supporting future efforts to encourage, develop, and sustain minority owned businesses across our great state."
