LI's Adorable Adoptables is a weekly column by Allison Matos, a lifelong Long Island resident who has been advocating animal adoption since 2012. Allison's weekly posts highlight local animals in need of adoption, and cover general animal welfare topics as well.

The handsome boy pictured here is Dutch. This 5 1/2 year old boy is a smarty-pants: Dutch is house trained, crate trained, social with dogs and knows multiple commands already. Dutch lived with adults and teenagers before being recently surrendered to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter.

His past owners describe Dutch as playful, gentle and loyal but can be protective and wary of new people. Dutch is very quiet and well behaved in his crate while he awaits his forever home at the shelter. Thank you for reading about Dutch- and please remember to always adopt, never shop...pass it on!
