Shoreham, NY - May 10, 2016 - The Gold Award is the most prestigious award in Girl Scouting and challenges young woman to change the world. On Tuesday, May 3rd, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker had the pleasure of honoring Shayna DelVecchio, Inger-Marie O’Toole and Rebecca Schotte for earning their Gold Awards. The three girls were recognized at the annual ceremonies for Girl Scout Service Unit 669 of Shoreham-Wading River.

“I commend the girls on achieving such an honorable recognition,” said Legislator Anker. “They have proven themselves to be leaders in our community and excellent role models for their peers.”

In order to earn the Gold Award, Girl Scouts must implement an individual community project that reaches beyond the Girl Scout organization and provides a sustainable, lasting benefit. Shayna created wall murals for the nonprofit organization Angela’s House, Inger-Marie raised guinea hens to help reduce the tick and chigger population on her high school’s running trail, and Rebecca built book shelves for the Children’s Developmental Daycare Program at Centereach.

The Girl Scouts of Suffolk County is an organization dedicated to empowering and teaching important values to young girls.  For more information please visit here.
