Deer Park Man Arrested for Stealing Cookie Money from Girl Scouts in Rockville Centre

Rockville Centre, NY - March 11th, 2016 - First Squad detectives report the details of an arrest for a robbery that occurred in Rockville Centre on Wednesday, 03/09/16 at 5:45 P.M.

According to detectives, Michael Avelli, 34, of W. 23rd St., Deer Park, while at N. Park Ave./Front St., removed a cash box containing approximately $100 from a table that was being used by Girl Scouts to sell cookies.

As the defendant was fleeing the scene, a male victim chased and grabbed him, at which time the defendant struck the victim on the face.  The defendant then fled the scene without the proceeds.

The victim, who sustained facial contusions to his face, refused medical aid. No other injuries were reported.

Subsequent investigation by detectives led to the arrest of Avelli on Thursday, 03/10/16 at his residence.  

He is being charged with Robbery 2nd Degree and will be arraigned on Friday, 03/11/16 in First District Court, Hempstead.
