Woman Arrested for DWI Following Middle Island Crash that Killed Passenger

Suffolk County Police have arrested a Bayport woman for driving while intoxicated following a crash that killed her passenger early this morning.

Middle Island, NY - February 21sr, 2016 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a Bayport woman for driving while intoxicated following a crash that killed her passenger early this morning.

Dawn Pierce was driving a 2007 Ford Edge southbound on Wading River Hollow Road when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree approximately 100 yards south of Scenic Hills Drive in Middle Island at 2:37 a.m.

Pierce’s front seat passenger, Jacqueline Grawunder, 24, of Yaphank, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Two backseat passengers, Alexander Rikimoto, 21, of Shirley, and Michael Rempe, 22, of Franklin Square, were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Pierce, 21, of Terrace Road, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was admitted with serious injuries. Pierce has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated and will be arraigned at a later date.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
