Cortland, NY - January 19, 2016 - The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) will hold its 11th Annual Firefighter Winter Games in Cortland, NY on February 5th through February 7th.  Proudly hosted by the Cortland County Firemen’s Association, more than 300 firefighters from across New York State, dressed in full turnout gear, will participate in a host of events throughout the weekend, with perennial favorites including Tubing; Sled Pull; Tug-O-War; Hose Race and Broomball. The 2016 Games are expected to draw competitors representing many areas of New York State.

The Fire Departments’ fierce competition for superiority might be motivated by potential bragging rights, but it actually provides firefighters with training opportunities to hone important firefighting skills. The Hose Relay Event, as one example, reinforces firefighters’ training on how vital it is to have speedy, efficient and close teamwork when fighting a fire.
