A plan is in place to convert the East Islip Lanes Bowling Alley into an assisted living facility developed by Benchmark Senior Living. The Islip Town Planning Board approved the plan for the 4.3 acre property during the December 6, 2023 planning meeting.
At the meeting a representative for the developer said that surrounding businesses would be able to use up to 30 parking stalls in their parking lot and that plans exceed required parking. Also, a traffic study showed that there would be less traffic than the existing use as a bowling alley with the main entrance off of Montauk Highway. The property at 117 East Main Street (Montauk Highway) is on the corner of Greenwood Avenue next door to the U.S. Post Office.
