East Garden City Woman With Open Warrant Injures Officer While Resisting Arrest, NCPD Says

Third Squad Detectives report the arrest of an East Garden City woman for Assault that occurred in East Garden City.
 
According to Detectives, officers responded to La Quinta Motel, 821 Stewart Avenue, for a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers were made aware that a female guest at the motel was recognized from “Mug Shot Mondays” which is made public by the Nassau County Police Department. The responding officers identified the woman as April Summers, 31.  
 
A subsequent investigation by police revealed the defendant had an open warrant from Nassau County. Officers did then attempt to place the defendant into custody. Summers continuously refused to comply with officers’ orders and violently resisted arrest. The defendant was subdued and placed into custody.
 
During the course of the incident, one police officer was injured, sustaining a laceration to his hand. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
 
April Summers is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, and an open warrant for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. She was arraigned at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
