Intoxicated driver charged under Leandra's Law in Hempstead after routine patrol leads to arrest, endangering a toddler onboard

The Nassau County Police Department reports an arrest of a Hempstead man for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law) on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 11:20 PM in Hempstead.
 
According to Police, Officers on routine patrol observed a 2011 black Honda Civic committed several Vehicle Traffic Infractions and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop on Fulton Avenue near the intersection of Nassau Place. Officers approached the vehicle and observed the driver, defendant Anibal Alvarado Rodriguez, 22, of 67 Terrace Avenue with glassy eyes and the smell of alcohol emanating from his breath.
 
Officers conducted a Standard Field Sobriety Test with positive results and defendant Anibal Alvarado Rodriguez was placed under arrest without incident.
 
The vehicles passengers, females ages 33 and 35 along with a 1-year-old male who was not properly restrained in a car seat were not injured. The vehicle was impounded.
 
Defendant Anibal Alvarado Rodriguez is charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child under 16) under the Leandra’s Law, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Infractions. Defendant Anibal Alvarado Rodriguez will be arraigned on Friday, July 21, 2023 at First District Court 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
