Weather Alert

LIGHT SNOW AND SPOTTY LIGHT FREEZING RAIN POSSIBLE THIS EVENING As temperatures slowly rise this evening, light snow should quickly change over to rain across Long Island, New York City and the suburbs just north and west, and across coastal and southeastern Connecticut, with at least a coating of accumulation, and as much as an inch farther away from the coast. As precipitation mixes with and changes to rain, road temperatures in these areas may still be below freezing even as air temperatures slowly rise to the mid and upper 30s, and a light glaze of ice may be possible on untreated surfaces. So plan on slippery conditions this evening even as temperatures slowly rise.

The Town of Hempstead has announced that due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, the previously scheduled Billy Joel tribute band, Mike DelGuidice & Big Shot, is unable to perform at tonight's Independence Day Salute to Veterans event at Town Park Point Lookout. The event is planned to go on as scheduled with Almost Queen, a popular and authentic Queen tribute band taking the stage.

This free summer event starts at 7:30 p.m. with a salute to veterans and front-line heroes, followed by a drive-in concert and a spectacular fireworks display. The rain date is tomorrow, June 28.

Entrance to the park is for motor vehicles only, on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are asked to wear face masks. Because of social distancing requirements, attendance is limited and restricted to Town of Hempstead residents, and there is limited parking.
